Tucked in Alden St, Fortitude Valley, Honto is a real hidden gem. Many people who first visited Honto had thought they might have got lost or gone to the wrong street. When you ring them to locate the restaurant, they will tell you "if you can't find it, you are here."
When you push the wooden door to the restaurant, it is as if you have entered a cinema with some movie on - dark and moody. Having gotten past the corridor, the dark space with dimmed lights and cheerful background music immediately make you wind down.
Honto was awarded one hat by the Good Food Guide Awards 2020 and it really lives up to its name. You will be amazed by every dish made from seemingly mundane ingredients.
Their banquet menu has been highly rated and recommend.
Tuna handroll - tuna immediately melts in your mouth.
Kingfish - perfect combination with yuzu ponzu and pickled fennel
Karaage chicken burger - crispy fried chicken with lemon chilli is a perfect match.
Slow cooked beef short rib - so soft and tender.
Potato crisp - whipped bonito and bottarga really do the magic.
White peach and lychee granita, peach cream, jasmine tea meringue - light and fresh. It is absolutely divine.
Honto is great place for special occasions and celebrations. Enjoying good food with good wine in good company is one of the most beautiful things in life.
Make sure you make a booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
